Bachelorette Party: where to start?

1 year News, Weddings

Despite all the stressful events leading up to the wedding day, there is one event that is attended by all the close friends of the couple: the bachelor and bachelorette parties.

The bachelorette party is indeed the most exciting event during pre-wedding commitments.

Now is the time we celebrate the bride-to-be and her last days of celibacy before married life. But, while it is all about celebrating and having fun, there are some rules to follow to ensure a successful event.

Types of bachelorette parties

Back in the day, a bachelorette party was scheduled one or two nights prior to the wedding and it was all about dinner, followed by some surprising activities and an outing. Today, it’s more about a weekend getaway.

No matter what kind of bachelorette party you are organizing, what is key is that it reflects the bride-to-be’s tastes and personality.

It could be a full-day spa treatment, or you could enjoy hiking, a trip to the beach, or going away for the weekend. It all comes down to her wishes as well as your budget, of course.

Who throws the party?

Usually, the Maid of Honor and the bridesmaids are up to the task and are the ones that throw the bachelorette party. Sometimes, depending on the relationships, sisters and other family members could also participate.

To ensure smooth planning and organization, at least two people should take the lead on it, regardless of who is invited.

What about the guest list?

This is a crucial point as, even if it should be a surprise for the bride-to-be, the guests’ list must be approved by her.

Etiquette says that everyone who attends the engagement party should be invited to the wedding. Well, the same applies to the bachelorette party. Nonetheless, this should be a relaxing and informal moment. Want to know my advice?  keep it simple, intimate, and validated by the bride-to-be.

When should it be held?

Obviously, it should be before the wedding, yet the timing will be determined by the bride’s agenda and the destination.

I highly recommend fixing a date as soon as possible so you give the attendees enough time to prepare and organize their schedules. Also, I recommend avoiding the days prior to the wedding. This is because even if it is an incredible moment, so close to the big day it will add unnecessary stress to the couple.

It is better to plan the bachelorette party between three and one month prior to the wedding day. In this way, the bride-to-be will have enough time to recover.

Who pays for it?

Normally, each invitee will pay their own expenses and they will all cover the bride-to-be’s costs as a gesture.

It is possible, however, for the bride to pay for transportation and accommodation as well if the trip is a weekend getaway, where the costs are higher.

What kind of activities should be planned?

There is an infinite amount of activities to organize for a bachelorette party. Irrespective of whether you have an intimate dinner at home, go out or are planning a weekend getaway, the most meaningful thing is that the gathering you organize honors the bride-to-be.

Remember it is not about the Maid of Honor or Bridesmaids’ wishes, but rather what the bride-to-be likes to do or how she would like to spend that moment.
